Young Farmers team up to put taste to the test!

12th March 2012

Members of Cookstown, Rathfriland and Moneyreagh Young Farmers Clubs recently teamed up to form the judging panel for the sausage, gourmet sausage and vegetable roll categories in this year’s European Angus Steak Tasting Competition.

Staged at CAFRE, Loughry Campus, this is the first year sausage and vegetable roll categories have been contested in the European Angus sponsored event.

Open to farmers, butchers, retailers and processors the competition aims to find the best steaks, sausages and vegetable rolls in Northern Ireland.

This year’s celebrity judge in the competition is Gary Hamilton, player manager of Glenavon Football Club and he will be giving his verdict on each of the finalists in all steak categories – best fillet steak, best sirloin steak and best rib-eye.

There was a total of 16 Young Farmers taking part in the judging and their verdicts, along with that of Gary Hamilton’s, will be revealed at a special Charity Awards Night being held at Tandragee Golf Club on Friday 30th March.

As well as announcing the winners at the Awards Night and Dinner a special auction and raffle will be held in aid of the European Angus Cattle Society’s chosen charity, the Northern Ireland Children’s Cancer Unit Fund (NICCUF).

“We managed to raise a total of £1,205 for  NICCUF last year and we are hopeful that figure can be surpassed at this year’s Charity Gala event,” explained Society Secretary, Harry McGaffin.
