European Angus gears up for Open Day and Young Handlers event

30th June 2012

The European Angus Cattle Society is all set to host its Open Day and Young Handlers Event this Saturday, July 7th.

Taking place at Harry McGaffin’s farm in Gilford the event is being held to mark the start of a Beef Scheme initiative aimed at providing European Angus breeders with a premium for their beef.

The Society has entered into a partnership scheme with Peter Hannan of Moira-based Hannan Meats as part of a programme that is designed to provide European Angus breeders with a direct route to market that will result in enhanced profits, dependant upon grades.

The Irish Beltex Club will be in attendance at the Open Day along with Jane Collins of the Lougherne Stud who will be passing on her expertise in horse breeding.

Boer Goats will also be on display with local expert David Little on hand to answer any questions in relation to the breed and there will also be a birds of prey demonstration.

Judging of the Young Handlers event will be in the capable hands of Alison Connolly.

To round off proceedings a barbecue will be held in aid of the Make a Wish Charity Foundation.

An open invitation is extended to the event which starts at 1.30pm.

Harry McGaffin’s farm is located at 47a Ballymacanallen Road, Gilford BT63 6AE.
