Show debut for European Angus

19th May 2013

The European Angus Cattle Society was showing in the beef cattle classes for the first time ever at this year’s Balmoral Show.

An event made all the more memorable with the Show’s new venue at Balmoral Park, according to Society Secretary, Harry McGaffin.

European Angus is a relatively new Cattle Society in Northern Ireland but it’s very much a home grown phenomenon. The Society registers 100% Aberdeen Angus down to 50% Angus while the other 50% comes from Limousin.
This gives the Society two genetic pools to pick from.

This year’s European Angus classes, judged by Leo McEnroe from Virginia, County Cavan, were sponsored by Devenish Nutrition, the agri-technology company.

David Lester from Armagh was named Champion with his yearling heifer, Aughnagurgan Erica while Hugh Dickson and family from Moneyrea were awarded Reserve Champion with their young bull, Bluebell Bank Labyrinth.
