Hannan Meats’ Producer Groups win an amazing five Great Taste Awards – each!

12th August 2013

Hannan Meats, based in Moira have broken all records this year at the Great Taste Awards, known as the “Oscars” of artisan foods across the UK and Ireland.

The company won an amazing 25 awards, totalling 44 Gold Stars for various meat products, but the absolute stars of the show this year were undoubtedly their beef products.

Hannan’s have two beef producer group supply chain partners, the Glenarm Shorthorn and the European Angus, producing superbly finished beef animals from around 70 farmers in total.

The quality of these beef breed carcases, combined with Hannan Meats’ new and innovative Himalayan salt aging process, results in superb eating quality as demonstrated with the latest accolades from the Great Taste Awards.

The aging chills at Hannan Meats carefully control temperature and humidity and each contain a wall of 250 million year old Himalayan salt which purifies the atmosphere.
The first chamber was commissioned last year and was so successful that a second much larger one, containing 16 tonnes of Himalayan salt was completed in April this year.

This was the first year that the salt aged beef was ready to be entered in the Great Taste Awards.

The Euro Angus beef achieved Gold 3-star awards for salt aged cote de boeuf, salt aged Fiorentina T-Bone and salt aged sirloin, a Gold 2-star for Euro Angus salt aged ribeye Delmonico, and a Gold 1-star for salt aged fillet steak.

The Glenarm Shorthorn achieved Gold 3-stars for salt aged Fiorentina T-Bone and Rack of beef, Gold 2-stars for salt aged sirloin and fillet and a Gold 1-star for ribeye Delmonico.

Peter Hannan, Managing Director of Hannan Meats said: “The Euro Angus and Glenarm Shorthorn Producer Groups are both hugely important to us; it ensures we get the very best quality beef and it is our job to handle the meat carefully and age it to perfection.
“We have built up these supply chain relationships over a number of years now and the quality of the product speaks for itself when our customers include about 20 great local restaurants, Fortnum and Mason and Mark Hix’s restaurants in London and Clodagh McKenna’s new restaurant in Blackrock, Dublin.”
“The farmers in these Producer Groups are so dedicated that we know that the resulting products will only go from strength to strength.”
