Double delight for the Magowans in European Angus classes at Castlewellan Show

It was a case of double delight for the Magowan family from Rathfriland at the Castlewellan Show on Saturday taking the Surpreme Champion title and the Best Animal of the Opposite Sex to the Champion Award in the European Angus classes at the popular County Down event.

It was Bannwater Lady Elizabeth, winner of the Cow any age in calf or with calf at foot class, who took the top honour for the Magowans while a young bull calf, Bannwater Lord The Best, born in March of this year, lifted the Best Animal of Opposite Sex to the Champion Award.

For this straight one-two result Andrew Magowan was presented with The Tughan Solicitors Cup and the Bannside Trophy.

The Heifer born in 2014 class was won by Aughnagurgan Ember, belonging to Armagh breeder, David Lester.
David also took the top award in the Bull born in 2014 class with Aughnagurgan Eddie, born in April of that year.

Molly Bradley from Killylea was presented with the European Angus Cattle Society Young Handlers Award for the second year in a row with Lily Neill from Benburb and Jamie Allen from Aughnacloy finishing joint second.

Judging was carried out by Fraser Cormack from Northumberland with class sponsorship provided by Blackberry Hill Farm, Gilford.

European Angus Results:

Supreme Champion: Bannwater Lady Elizabeth, Andrew Magowan.
Best animal of opposite sex to the Champion:   Bannwater Lord The Best, Andrew Magowan.
Cow any age in calf or with calf at foot: Bannwater Lady Elizabeth, Andrew Magowan.
Heifer born in 2014: Aughnagurgan Ember, David Lester.
Bull born in 2014:   Aughnagurgan Eddie, David Lester.
Bull or heifer calf born in 2015:  Bannwater Lord The Best, Andrew Magowan.
